My husband and I have friends in Phoenix, AZ who graduated from the same high school as we did (it was a small school) in the 1970’s. Our high school was in Lake Tahoe, Nevada and none of us would trade our child hood for anything.
Lance and Beth married out of high school and moved to Arizona. There they raised their family and when they became “empty nesters” they decided to invest in a food truck. They now have four!
The first one I want to tell you about is the Wandering Donkey. The Wondering Donkey features a variety of Mexican food. Their Burritos & Bowls include cilantro, rice and black beans and salsa bar. You can order the Carne Asada (Grilled Skirt Steak), Lamb Barbocoa (Braised Leg of Lamb), Camarones (Grilled Marinated Baja Shrimp), Pollo (Grilled Citrus Marinated Chicken), Carnitas (Slow Roasted Pork Shoulder) or the Veggies (Sauteed Sweet Peppers and Onion). The price ranges from eight dollars to twelve dollars and you can add extra meat for only three dollars,
They also serve Al La Carte tacos (you choose your protein) which includes the Salsa Bar. How about a Quesadilla or Nachos? Or add their Carne Asada Fries for only twelve dollars. They are Seasoned Shoestring Fries topped with carne asada and queso cheese.
Don’t forget dessert! One of their churros will surely conquer your sweet tooth.
The Wandering Donkey was named the 2016 Grand Champions at the Arizona Taco Festival.
Grilled Addiction quotes Professor Gary Werk, Author of “Your Brain on Food”; “The distinction between what is considered a food (something that your body wants or needs in order to function optimally) or a drug (something that your brain wants or needs in order to function optimally) is being increasingly difficult to define. Thus from your brain’s perspective, food is a drug .”
Thus their philosophy is to create epic foodie concepts. Their Grilled Addiction truck specializes in catering for corporate events, private parties and special occasions. Their “Build it Your Way Burgers and Sandwiches” feature Tri-tip steak, Char-grilled Burger and Grilled chicken.
Their signature dish is Grilled Lollipop Lamb Chops. They are seared over high heat to perfection then drizzled with tarragon aioli and placed over an organic field of green salad with balsamic vinaigrette.
Their Blackberry Glazed Pulled Pork and Coleslaw Sandwich boasts slow roasted pork shoulder seasoned with the perfect rub. Topped with a tasty blackberry sauce and fresh Sapa Cabbage placed on a lightly toasted fresh bun. Or try the mouth-watering Hatch Green Chili Chicken Sandwich which has grilled marinated chicken, pepper jack cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato and onion with Chipotle Lime Aioli on a grilled brioche bun. Add a side of shoestring French fries and an organic field green salad with balsamic vinaigrette.
One of their newest trucks is The Twisted Cheese where everything is cheese please! They will cater any event with a personal Chef available.
Their menu is simple but full of amazing choices. Try the Caprese Grilled Cheese Melt – Roma tomato, buffalo mozzarella on fresh bread.
Next up is the Cheddar Cheese Pancake and Bratwurst Roll-up with braised red cabbage and beaver mustard. How about the Cajun Shrimp and Cheesy Grits with Andouille Sausage and roasted peppers. Now here is something I could wrap my lips around, the Hot Italian Roast Beef with Pepper Jack Cheese – roasted bell peppers all on a hoagie roll. Wisconsin Fried Cheese Curds with garlic chili aioli dipping sauce poutine style – fires, cheese curds and gravy adds an additional four dollars. Lastly the Good Ole’ Grilled Cheese Sandwich that blends cheddar, provolone, pepper jack cheeses can be topped with chicken or steak or peppers.
Don’t forget to save room for their Heirloom Basil Tomato Bisque Soup or old fashion tater tots or Shoestring French Fries.
Lance and Beth take care of their trucks to make sure not only do they serve the best, freshest foods they also strive to keep every surface clean. They use professional hood cleaners rather than a “do it yourself” cleaning . This insures they stay in compliance with the health department.
The fourth truck owned by Lance and Beth is Noodles a GoGo. This truck features your savory noodle dishes from around the world. You can book this truck for a catering event as well.
Menu items include Presidential Mac & Cheese. Campanella noodles tossed in a creamy three cheese mornay sauce, sautéed with mushroom and shallots – you can add shrimp with Cajun andouille sausage.
Kremlin Steak & Mushroom Stroganoff uses grilled, sliced sirloin steak (cooked medium rare) with garlic infused sautéed mushrooms and pearl onions, all atop a bed of twisted egg noodles, tossed in a traditional stroganoff gravy with a dollop of chive crème fraiche!
For those of you who are looking for a Gluten Free meal, try their Street Pad Thai with soaked dried rice noodles, stir-fired with eggs and chopped tofu, flavored with thai sweet and sour sauce, served with bean sprouts and scallions then garnished with chopped roasted peanuts, cilantro and lime. You can add wok-seared Asian-style chicken.
The Japanese Surf & Turf with Chili Ramen sounds amazing. With its wok-seared sirloin steak, shrimp and ramen noodles tossed in a spicy-savory Japanese sauce with minced garlic, onion, carrots, scallions, cilantro and lime.
What can I say? My friends have knocked it out of the park!
